Issue of new SIM card process involved lot of Paper work before eKYC introduced to give SIM Card, Flipside of this paperwork is any can create multiple copies of paperwork and use it to get SIM Card. These Sim cards are ususally used by Fraudsters for creating Frauds.
In order to increase the security from identity theft, the Department of Telecommunication on INDIA, Govt recently launched a portal where any Aadhaar holder can check SIM cards issued in their name.
The portal is called Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP).
Portal is very simple to use by any one, however you should have a mobile number linked with your aadhar card, as it sends the OTP to this mobile number to verify its your aadhar card only.
Here are the few steps to follow to find out no of SIM cards registered with your Aadhar Card.
Step 1: Visit TAFCOP Portal — https://tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in/
Step 2: Please ensure that you have entered the correct address. You Need to Enter your current mobile number which is linked to your Aadhar card in the Empty box in between and click on the “Get OTP” button.
Step 3: In few seconds, you will get an OTP from Department of Telecom to verify your Identity. Enter the OTP you have received and click on the “Validate” button.
Step 4: If OTP is successfully verified, you will see a list of mobile numbers issued with your Aadhaar details.
*Note that if your number is activated as a corporate connection, all mobiles related to the connection will be listed.
Step 5: Look carefully at the numbers. If you do not recognize any of them, or if you do not use a number anymore, you can report them to the Department of Telecommunication from the portal itself.
Step 6: To report a number, select the checkbox on the left of the number, and click on the “This is not my number,” if you do not remember purchasing the number. For the numbers you do not need anymore, click on the “Not required” option.
Step 7:Finally, click on the Report button.
If you do not have any inactive or suspicious numbers in your name, there is no need to report them. Now that there is a portal dedicated to this service, it is a good practice to keep checking your number regularly wherever you use your Aadhaar card with some external agency.
